ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Howard County Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Bureau of Environmental Services has announced nomination forms for its annual “Business Recycling and Waste Reduction” and “Green Community Leadership” awards, are now available on the Bureau’s “Business Recycling” website. Deadline for nominations is 5:00 p.m., Friday, February 14th.
“As our County continues to implement impactful programs that are reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, amplifying our energy-independence, preserving our land and protecting our environment, this annual awards program recognizes those businesses who are stepping up to the challenge of going green,” said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. “Whether it is reducing plastic waste, educating the environmental advocates of the future or putting shovels in the ground to plant trees, these environmental leaders are showing us all that meaningful change can come from all around us through their actions, dedication and efforts to create a clean and energy independent environment.”
The Business Recycling and Waste Reduction Award recognizes Howard County businesses for their efforts during the 2024 calendar year. The Green Community Leadership Award recognizes a Howard County-based community group, school or organization that demonstrates efforts, projects or programs that help protect Howard County’s natural environment and preserve its resources. This award is open to community groups, schools and organizations that are based in Howard County.
In highlighting the importance of what these businesses, community groups, schools and organizations contribute to Howard County, DPW Director Yosef Kebede noted, “These awards showcase the incredible contributions of our local businesses and organizations in driving sustainability efforts. Their innovative solutions and steadfast commitment to reducing waste and preserving resources set a powerful example of how collective action can lead to significant environmental progress. We are proud to honor their achievements and dedication to making Howard County a greener, more sustainable community.”
Nomination forms are available online at www.workgreenhoward.org and all nominations must be completed by 5:00 p.m. Friday, February 14th.
Awards will be presented at the 18th annual Howard County GreenFest on Saturday, April 12th at Howard Community College.
