Just Five Months and Violent Teens Return to Howard County

Bryant Woods Elementary, Watchful Eye Daycare, and a community center are all a short distance from the violent youth trilogy that occurred on Waterfowl Terrace and Green Mountain Circle in Columbia’s Wilde Lake Village.

Five months after two armed robberies were allegedly committed by two female juveniles from Baltimore, both age 15, the same two suspects have been apprehended and accused of more violent crimes in Howard County, according to police reports.

On Monday, the Howard County Police Department issued a press release detailing gun-related crimes allegedly committed by five juveniles from Baltimore City.

According to HCPD, three juveniles were male, ages 15, 14 and 14 and two juvenile females ages 15 and 15. The juveniles were charged with armed robbery, carjacking and related crimes. The offenses occurred in the Wilde Lake Village of Columbia on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

In total, the suspects are accused in three separate criminal events.

  1. Armed robbery on Waterfowl Terrace
  2. An attempted carjacking on Green Mountain Circle
  3. Another attempted carjacking in the 10500 block of Green Mountain Circle

All three incidents occurred in close proximity to one another, just outside a school zone where Bryant Woods Elementary, Watchful Eye Daycare, and  a community center are located. Each of the named establishments are less than a one minute walk from where the alleged crimes took place.

The juveniles were already in possession of an automobile. According to police, HCPD maintained pursuit status, following the suspects into Baltimore before finally apprehending them.

As of Monday, all juveniles were being held in various juvenile detention centers within Maryland.

According to HCPD, the two female juveniles being held were previously charged on December 26, 2023 for two criminal incidents on November 8, 2023. According to an earlier police press announcement the two female suspects, with faces covered, approached a male student walking home from school, stealing his cell phone after displaying a gun.

In another incident the same day, the two suspects allegedly stole items from another juvenile male, and lastly, the two attempted a carjacking, but ultimately failed, according to police reports. HCPD arrested and charged three female juveniles. The third suspect was age 14 at the time of the arrest. For complete clarity, see the text of the original press release below.

On Nov. 8, a juvenile male victim reported that while walking home from school in the 9700 block of Riverside Circle in Ellicott City, he was approached by two female suspects with their faces covered who displayed a handgun and stole his cell phone before fleeing. Around the same time nearby, in the 9800 block of Gwynn Park Drive, a second juvenile male victim reported his belongings were stolen in a similar robbery. Neither victim was injured. Through investigation, police charged three juvenile females – two 15-year-olds and a 14-year-old – from Baltimore with the robberies. The suspects also are charged in an attempted carjacking earlier on Nov. 8 in the 10300 block of College Square in Columbia. Police continue to investigate whether additional suspects were involved.

The Guilford Gazette contacted the Howard County State’s Attorney’s office to get further details about the disposition of the repeat offenders, but due to legal protections for juveniles and possibly policies of the SA office, no information was offered.
