ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Howard County Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold a community outreach meeting on Tuesday, November 12th at 6:00 p.m. in the Oella Room at the Roger Carter Community Center in Ellicott City, to discuss the installation of a new pocket park along the northside of St. Paul Street behind 8109 to 8125 Main Street.

Part of Howard County Executive Calvin Ball’s Ellicott City Safe and Sound Plan and Ellicott City Watershed Master Plan, this project will create a terraced park space along the existing hillside and a new pedestrian connection between lower Main Street and St. Paul Street. The park’s ramps, stairs, decks and landscaped areas will be a part of the “green cultural trail” network. Additionally, the project will facilitate critical emergency egress from Main Street, providing pedestrians access to safer, high ground areas.

Currently in the preliminary design phase, the project’s design is expected to be completed by mid-2025 with construction to follow.

The informational meeting will include a short presentation on the project, followed by a question-and-answer session. Display graphics will also be available for review and discussion. County staff and the project’s design consultant will be on hand to answer any questions and gather public comments.

For those unable to attend the meeting, the presentation and graphics will be available following the meeting on the project’s website. Additionally, for questions and/or to submit comments about the project, please contact DPW Project Manager Brandon Love at 410-313-6139 or email blove@howardcountymd.gov.

An interpreter for people who are deaf or hard of hearing will be available if requested seven working days prior to the meeting. Please call DPW at 410-313-3440 (voice) or use Relay at 7-1-1, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
