It’s Time to Nominate Your Favorites for Community Sports Hall of Fame

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Howard County Department of Recreation & Parks is now seeking nominations for its 2025 “Community Sports Hall of Fame,” which recognizes outstanding individuals who have gained prominence in or made substantial contributions to community recreational sports in Howard County. The nomination deadline is Tuesday, April 15th.

Coaches, managers, league officials, commissioners and even behind-the-scenes contributors closely identified with community recreational sports can be nominated. In addition, nominees must be either residents of Howard County or made their community sports contributions primarily in Howard County. 

“Ranked amongst the top four percent of ‘Healthiest Communities’ nationwide, per U.S. News and World Report’s latest ranking, we remain committed to ensuring our residents have the resources, amenities and support they need to live a healthy, thriving life,” said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. “This success is exemplified by our diverse and robust sports and recreation offerings, made possible by the incredible coaches, mentors, officials and volunteers who are stepping up to the plate to make Howard County’s athletic community and sports programming so great. If you know of someone who is making an impactful difference in the lives of our younger residents, I encourage you to nominate them today.”

Nomination forms are available online on the department’s “Community Sports Hall of Fame” website at www.hcrpsports.org/halloffame or a hardcopy can be requested by calling Recreation & Parks at 410-313-4706. All completed nomination forms must be delivered or postmarked by Tuesday, April 15th, to: Howard County Community Sports Hall of Fame, 7120 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia, MD 21046 or emailed to Ricky DuBois at rdubois@howardcountymd.gov.

“Behind every great athlete, there’s often a dedicated coach, mentor, or volunteer,” said Nick Mooneyhan, Recreation & Parks Director. “The Community Sports Hall of Fame recognizes these unsung heroes who pour their time and energy into making recreational sports thrive in Howard County. We encourage everyone to submit nominations and help us honor these invaluable members of our community.”

Individuals chosen for this year’s inductee class, will be inducted into the Community Sports Hall of Fame during Recreation & Parks 21st Celebration of Sports banquet on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City.

The Howard County Community Sports Hall of Fame was established in 2005. A list of past Hall of Fame inductees is available online at https://www.hcrpsports.org/hofinductees.
