Two Fatal Collisions in Laurel and Jessup

Howard County police are investigating two unrelated fatal collisions that occurred Friday night in Laurel and Jessup.

At approximately 10:45 p.m., a 2013 Hyundai Sonata was traveling eastbound on Whiskey Bottom Road, passing Kings Post Court, when the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and struck a tree. No other vehicles were involved.

The driver, an adult female, was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where she was pronounced dead. A rear passenger, a minor child, was transported to the hospital for a checkup.

Whiskey Bottom Road was closed between Kings Post Court and Route 1 for approximately two and a half hours overnight.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., a 2013 Nissan Altima was traveling northbound in the 8000 block of Washington Boulevard when it struck a dark-colored sedan entering the roadway from the Super 8 Motel. The Altima then left the roadway and struck a telephone pole and fence. The sedan failed to remain at the scene, continuing northbound on Washington Boulevard.

The driver of the Altima, an adult male was pronounced dead at the scene.

Washington Boulevard was closed at Lincoln Drive for approximately three and a half hours overnight.

Police investigating all possible contributing factors in each collision, including speed and weather conditions.
